Oil-Free Corrosion Protection: Does Your Operation Qualify?

Posted by Joe Spitz on Sep 29, 2011 8:53:00 AM

Water Falling on HandLiberty Packaging representatives have recently been consulting with companies about the option to have cleaner operations by reducing or eliminating the application of protective oils to their products.

In manufacturing, these protective oils act as a barrier to corrosive gases, primarily for the protection of metals.  Liberty Packaging offers a free consultation to companies who want a cleaner operation and product. Of course, not all operations can eliminate oils - they are necessary in some instances - but our philosophy as concerned citizens and manufacturing business advocates is that we can help eliminate some of the oil dependency.

For many years American manufacturing workers have become accustomed to working with these oils; they spray oils, they dip parts in oils, they may paint oils onto hard earned manufactured items. Employees will naturally resist change. They probably wish to keep things the same; especially in this economy when things feel unsafe.

Our contention is that in a clean oil-free packing process, the packing personnel will be happier. Their work environment is safer without oils in most instances, especially when you can eliminate the handling of slippery, oiled, sometimes heavy or bulky items. With a change to a clean and dry system for corrosion protection, employees will feel better in that they will not be breathing the volatiles and/or oil smells into their lungs. They will welcome not having their skin and nails becoming saturated with greasy oils. I’m sure their mates will appreciate them coming home cleaner. You can probably think of other reasons it may be good for your operation to handle oily materials less often.

To help you identify whether your company is a candidate, we offer a free heavy-duty barrier packaging sample to help you launch a trial program to eliminate the use of protective oils. Additionally, we have case studies from a variety of industries around the globe, illustrating how oil-free corrosion protection can help companies streamline their operations.
