Intercept Packaging Protects Against Cad Bloom

Posted by Elaine Spitz on Feb 23, 2015 2:22:00 PM

Cadmium, a naturally-occurring element, is one of several metallic coating materials which are electrochemically active and, therefore, used as sacrificial coatings to prevent corrosion. Typically they are applied to iron, steel, zinc, aluminum, and titanium alloys, as well.

Cadmium coatings are used on hardware that must be subjected to harsh environments, especially where good corrosion resistance to marine or salt-laden atmospheres is required. Cadmium coatings are often employed in shipbuilding applications because of their high resistance to sea salt, and also in railroad, and ordnance applications. In addition, cadmium coatings have good corrosion fatigue properties as well as resistance to stress corrosion cracking, making them valuable in protecting high strength steel fasteners utilized in the aircraft industry.

Packaging the Sizzle

Posted by Joe Spitz on Aug 14, 2014 10:13:00 AM

Introducing Intercept Technology “corrosion protection” message yellow tape. The purpose of this tape is to be wrapped around the finished Intercept package informing anyone who sees it that the product inside is protected from corrosion. The message is printed on the sturdy, high tack, high visibility yellow plastic tape which has the Intercept Technology logo printed on it followed by a message in 6 different languages: English, German, French, Spanish, Japanese, and Chinese. The message reads: “Attention - Intercept corrosion protection packaging. These goods have been protected against corrosion using a protective packaging method. In order to not have any corrosion damage to the goods, the packaging must be sealed immediately again after opening.”

Even if you are an electrical engineer and these are elementary terms from your high school and college days, it may be fruitful to review their meanings and logic to see if you currently have sufficient packaging to protect your company’s products and assets.

Game on: Egg vs Peanut; Intercept Packaging vs Nature's Packaging

Posted by Joe Spitz on Oct 15, 2013 1:58:00 PM

Very early in my career in packaging, my boss said, “nature’s egg is the best packaging ever”.  Knowing what I do now, I think, “what are you nuts? (foreshadowing!); no way”. Sure, the eggshell may maintain freshness, but the shell is so fragile that only because of man’s innovation in creative packaging has it been that the egg can be transported, stored, and sold to consumers with limited breaking and spoiling. Without man’s packaging solutions, the egg would only stay local to the chicken farmer and his immediate community. Custom packaging manufacturing has allowed the egg to be raised in one location and safely shared all around the globe.

A Look at Packaging Costs

Posted by Joe Spitz on Oct 8, 2013 8:45:00 PM

You may have seen the TV ads. An actor, dressed in black, with stubbly beard and dark hair, looking for all the world like Tony Soprano’s nephew, as he sits smugly with this legs up on the table. He kicks the competitor's bottle of vodka off the table and proclaims that his brand pours him a measured shot, while inquiring what the competitor’s brand does for him. Sticking with alcoholic products, one beer brand has a thermometer imprinted on the side of the can, in case the consumer can’t tell if it’s cold while touching it and needs a visual confirmation of the beer's ice-coldness; another may have a new type of tear tab, or larger mouth, to allow more beer to be consumed quickly.  It’s happening with most consumer products; the packaging is a greater selling point than the product within. It appears consumers want these conveniences. In many of these scenarios, the cost of packaging is likely greater than the cost of the product it contains.

Intercept Technology Packaging Now Standard at ABB North Carolina

Posted by Elaine Spitz on Sep 10, 2012 9:30:00 AM

The following piece is from the Intercept Technology Group international news page:

A Baldor motor manufacturing facility in Kings Mountain, North Carolina, US, was recently acquired by ABB. The Baldor facility had a business model that primarily focused domestic distribution. In the past the plant had used a combination of no protection, or traditional preservation wrapping methods because there were few constraints on a relatively short shipping cycle. Given the fact that international shipping takes longer, a more robust packaging solution was needed. With that in mind ABB has standardized its international shipping and has decided to use INTERCEPT Technology™ exclusively.

Packaging Electricity in South Africa

Posted by Elaine Spitz on Jun 29, 2012 12:39:00 PM

Today's post by intrepid and well-traveled blogger Albert Greenhut of Engineered Materials Inc., Chicago, IL

Kimberley, South Africa (home to the original DeBeers mine) was the second city in the world to have electricity, first installed in 1881. South Africa, more specifically Johannesburg, is now in an interesting position regarding electricity.

Fast forward to today. South Africa is the biggest consumer of electricity on the African continent, at 215 billion kWh (kilowatt hours) consumed each year, twice as much as Egypt consumes, 104 billion kWh, as of 2011. With an ever growing population and the biggest economic engine in Africa, these demands are surely on the rise.

Packaging Sales = Transfer of Enthusiasm

Posted by Elaine Spitz on Jan 25, 2012 4:15:00 PM

By now you may have sensed the recurring theme of our recent posts, that of enthusiasm. This guest post by returning guest blogger Albert Greenhut, of EMI, hits the nail right on the head. Credit Albert for the photo of our enthusiastic sales team, at left.

Going from the high energy, high activity, and steady thump, thump, thump of the bag making machines to the muted skepticism and hushed conversations at the start of a sales meeting was a study in contrasts. The bag machines kept that steady beat going, no interruptions, no thoughts of anything but doing the job, making the bags, getting it done. The sales meeting, by contrast, was designed to see if that same dedication to getting the job done could be transferred to people, instead of transfer of film through the dancer rolls, the goal was training and a transfer of enthusiasm to the people. Joe Spitz and John Murphy both verbalized that at the beginning of the Liberty distributor training session: sales is the transfer of enthusiasm.
