In the packaging industry, as in any industry, it is sometimes necessary to perform tests of the validity of the product options. For packaging, the ideal tests would come from real world situations and many tests do. Of course, that is not always possible, which is why throughout the years, many standard tests have been developed and some have even been refined (which requires testing tests). ASTM International (formerly the American Society for Testing and Materials), ISO, militaries and other organizations keep track of these standard tests and suggest the standard approach for performing them. Many testing companies also add on to these standards or adjust them slightly for their own testing purposes.

Safety in Manufacturing: Learn the Top 5 Safety Manager Responsibilities & Never Take Safety for Granted!
Want Safety In Manufacturing? Turn to the Safety Manager!
When it comes to safety in manufacturing, the safety manager is an employer’s point man for worker safety. This means that the safety manager’s responsibilities start with ensuring that all of the employer’s OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Association) mandated responsibilities are met. The following are five of the main responsibilities OSHA places on employers:
A few years ago, Liberty Packaging president Elaine was interviewed by the Copper Development Association, an organization dedicated to the copper metal and its uses. The Association took a particular interest in Corrosion Intercept. Corrosion Intercept, like all the Intercept Technology products, has a copper backbone bonded into the plastic packaging that acts as an atmospheric barrier, protecting the product inside from corrosion, static charges, and mildew. In that article, there is a link to a similar story regarding the importance of bronze, copper, and tin to man’s progress that I found fascinating. Here are some excerpts. I hope you enjoy.
Today's post is from Liberty Packaging's Director of New Business, John Murphy, pictured at left during his days at Murnell.
Many years ago I took a considerable risk for our family business in hiring chemist Bill Drinan, away from the Butcher Wax Co., based on Bill’s impressive know-how for formulating detergent and disinfectant compounds. I spent long hours studying saponification (converting grease and oil to soap), and the more I learned, the more business opportunities appeared with increasing frequency. Together Bill and I structured a program for manufacturers with the essentials for a successful detergent technology degreasing operation such as: effective products, the correct water temperature, the right dilution ratios, the best handling practices, the proper rinsing, clean solution preparation, and the right equipment. In doing so, I was setting my future, although I didn’t realize it then. I just knew I needed to work hard enough to feed my six children.
He’s tall. In winter time, he wears a hat from his collection of Stetsons and his face, underneath these wide brimmed cowboy-style hats, looks like Gregory Peck. He has a deep voice to accent his command of words and concepts.
Liberty Packaging Co. will exhibit Intercept Technology Packaging products at the upcoming MFG4 in Hartford, CT - May 8 - 10 at the Connecticut Convention Center. Sponsored by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, MFG4 is a conference featuring supply chain solutions across four key industries: aerospace, defense, medical and energy.

Over the course of several chats with the head of the Intercept Technology Group, Keith Donaldson (video series to be released soon), we learned about the groundbreaking work of Dr. W. Edwards Deming, an American statistician, professor, author, lecturer and consultant. Dr. Deming had many skills, including electrical engineering, playing the drums, singing, and writing sacred music. His legacy is impressive, especially his work developing new quality control protocols for manufacturing.
