Intercept Packaging Protection - Creative Uses at Home - Patio Table

There was a sharp explosive popping sound, then all the food and dishes caved through the outdoor table crashing onto the deck proceeded by the shattered glass. After a loud collective gasp, it took a moment for everyone to digest what had just happened. We all checked each other to verify that no one was hurt, and then preceded to the messy cleanup.

It was determined that here was not a hot plate placed on it.  “It must be a material defect” was the general consensus amongst our group; except with me. It is not just metals that corrode, I explained to the others, “all materials degrade by reaction with atmospheric gases, including glass, especially in a beach environment.”  Maybe there was a defect in the glass, but chances are, the constant reaction with sulfur and chlorine gasses from the ocean aged and weakened the glass prematurely and a stress point developed. The stresses were probably not noticeable to the eye, nor would we have thought to look for them. The light weight of this barbecue's dishes was enough to break the stress point.

Because of that experience, I cover my glass patio table for outdoor storage with Intercept plastic every year in late fall and uncover it early spring. Of course, being an Intercept dealer with shrouds, bags, and rolls of film in our Liberty sample room, this application is easy for me. I have been covering the table for a number of years, but there were many years at the beginning of this possession when we didn’t have Intercept to use. I don’t exactly know how old the table is. We probably purchased it when we moved into this home twenty years ago. The table looks great; no rust, paint blistering, or cracking on the frame and the designer glass looks clear and beautiful still.
